| 151 | Social Security Number - 379-01-9111 Ethel and Guy were still married at the time Ethel's mother Emma died in 1937. Her children said they were married 25 years, so that means they were divorced after July 1938. Information from documents Maxine has. (Aug, 2001) Ethel and Bill Stoneburner were married by Rev Lipkee at Trinity Luthern Church, Muskegon, in 1941. In a letter (to and from?) the reception was at their house on Heights Ravenna Road. They had chicken for supper. The "kids" were there, Roy (her brother), Maude and Alice (her sisters) and two girl friends. She worked at Borg Warner Corp., in Muskegon, from January 23, 1936 to February 5, 1944. She took a leave of absence until March 20, 1944. She left because of illness and never went back. Notes from letters written by Ethel or Maxine. Ethel went to Tacoma, Washington, where her husband was in the Army. He was due to be discharged soon. Before his discharge, she had a full medical checkup and ovarian cancer was discovered. In her letters she does not discuss her disease much. They lived at 806 South K St., Tacoma, WA. February 18, 1946 she owned Lot 10, Block 152, in Muskegon Heights March 8, 1946. Ethel stopped working in the PX at the base. April 7, 1946. Had a check-up, got a shot for small pox. "I may have a small operation. Will let you know later, nothing serious, so don't worry." April 10, 1946. Jack filed an appeal. He had broken into a drug store. He stole some stamps, so it was a federal crime and he went to Chilacothe, Ohio, prison. At another time he was in Jackon (MI) prison. April 17, 1946. Ethel took the Pullman train to San Francisco. April 23, 1946. Ethel tells Maxine that she has not started her "x-ray" treatments yet. May 3, 1946. She has started getting treatments at Letterman Hospital in San Francisco. May 13,1946. She is getting treatments at Letterman Hospital. May 31, 1946. Bill is reported out of the military "a week ago". He wants to buy a trailer and a jeep. (Evidently, they got a jeep because I (JLBW) remember Ethel using a jeep as her main vehicle.) July 7, 1946. Telegram to Richard Spink (Maxine's husband) saying Maxine and boys arrived that day. July 7, 1946. Letter saying Maxine just arrived with 2 boys in a 1937 Ford. They had driven from Michigan. Listed as "meat clerk", Tacoma, Washington, 12/5/1944 to 2/2/1945 Chuck... (2000) Ethel know all along she was a Reintjes. When she was married, she used the name McGillis. When Guy found out her real maiden name, they had a big fight. Maxine has Ethel's hair that she cut off when she was 24 years old. She could sit on her hair at the time. In those days they kept hair to practice using a curling iron. | REINTGUS, Ethel Frances (I72)

In 1829 Beecher and Jonathan (Brother of Beecher, Sr.) bought land. In 1832 Beecher sold land to Mattison. Chuck thinks Beecher got into some kind of trouble in about 1829. On June 21, 1830, Beecher assigned everything to creditors. He had gone to Upper Canada before the Census of 1830. In 1851 Johathan went to Canada in relation to Eli's will. Beecher and his brother Horace married sisters. Horace married Mary Ann Dickson. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- In a letter written by Buelah (I think) she says: "But on Pa's side, all I ever knew is what Grandma told me. Grandpa Benham's people lived in Toronto, Canada, and run a big brewery there. Ma and Pa got some papers on the Benham side of the family to fill out and some one was trying to find out about all of them. But ma just threw the whole thing in the fire. So no one ever knows just what was the inquery from them." ----------------------------------- Family notes: "Great great Granddad Benham ran a big brewery in Canada across from Detroit - horse hockey - big races - New Orleans, etc - lazy? - heard he was drown in Lake Erie - married Poughkeepsie, NY. Charles Benham born in New York, 1848, Sept 22, died Nov 24, 1928. Blacksmith apprenticeship from Joe Alchin, Milan, at 16 years of age. brother Charles sister Sarah 10 yrs older - born 1838 (Added notes): born in Canada his wife older Eliza Proctor, born Sept 1816, at Jamestown NY (This must be about Beecher Jr.) ______________________ Told to Vinnie by Beulah DuBois Beecher Bryant Benham was reported to have lost his life in a storm on Lake Erie. He is said to follow race tracks, as a rider or jockey and was gone for long periods at a time in doing this. Seems he was never settled anywhere for very long. (Beulah Benham DuBois lived with Grandma and Grandpa Gould quite a bit when she was a little girl so she seemed to know quite a bit about them). Grandpa Gould was gifted with powers fo seeing things like we call mediumister. I (Vinnie) was told several interesting stories of this gift of his. _______________________________ 1820 Census Gorham, Ontario Co,, NY Roll M33_62, Page 232, Image 121 Eli Benham Males, 1 - under 1 1 - 10 - 16 1 - 16 - 18 ? - 16 - 26 1 - 26 - 45 1 - over 45 Females, 1 - 10 - 16 2 - 16 - 26 1 - over 45 Four engaged in Agriculture, two in Manufacturing. | 171 | Viro married a Georgianna Crain in Binghamton, NY, and had three children: Paul, Daisy, and Viro. Georgianna, Paul and Daisy died of diptheria in New York. He remarried Matie Shumaker (Milwaukee) and had several more children, one being Velma. In 1900 he was in Detroit when his father died. Viro worked on the Milwaukee Journal and authored several books. His obituary listed his residence as 581 Wabash Ave., aged 51. He died of stomach cancer. He was a graduate of the Detroit College of Medicine and had a "considerable practice" when he was discovered to have cancer. He was a reporter for the Free Press in 1896. He was also a night clerk in the board of health offices and a deputy sheriff under Sheriff Stewart. In politics he was a Democrat. His obituary does not mention any survivors. | RICHARDSON, Viro Wilson (I483)

| 172 | We believe he was a Spiritualist, described by the family as "Spiritualist crazy". He moved to Matherton, North Plains Twp, Ionia Co., Mi in 1857 (a note written by Alice K. Richardson says they went to Michigan in 1856.) The town needed a doctor and they had heard of Dr. Richardson in Binghamton, NY. They offered him a house and farm if he would go there. He made some money while there, but he must not have stayed too long. In the 1860 Census, he was in Ionia County. Cordelia died of consumption in 1862. In the 1870 Census he was in Lansing, MI. Alice was 16. CFB thinks Cordelia had a brother in Seville Twp., Gratiot Co, MI. He found a Truesdell buried in Seville Twp. about 1900. Family stories say Cordelia was buried on her brother's farm, where she died. He bought a hotel in Lansing between 1862 and 1871, but lost it when he followed a Spiritualist message. He tried to reclaim the hotel when Alice was going with Charles Benham (they married in 1871). Some Chronology: In 1870 Israel was living in Lansing separately from his children: Belle,24; Oro, 18; Alice, 16. In the Lansing City Directory, in 1873 Oro is listed, and in 1887 Israel and Viro are listed. Israel died in January, 1887. In 1886 he is in Detroit (Check this fact) He died at 7:00pm January 23, 1887 in Detroit of "pneumonia of the brain". He was 66 years, 9 months, and 17 days old. The Richardson Family by Charles F. Benham In June 1966 we made another trip to Gratiot County, we found the deed and location of about 450 acres of land owned by Israel El. Richardson. In the years 1862 to 1865 we are quite sure he lumbered some of this land and floated the logs down the Pine River. He purchased the land in June of 1862, and the following December his wife, Cordelia, died, "old family records", and all we ever heard was that she was buried on the place. On this trip we found, after many leads and tips, a Max Harrell, of Riverdale, about 70 years old, who has lived in the area all his life, as did his father and grandfather. A tale told in his family "just what I was looking for" that someone was buried on the banks of Pine River, at the end of Olive Road at Lumberjack Road by a huge boulder. This is in the bend of the river about 40 feet off the road. This tale was told to Mr. Harrell's grandfather by an Indian so it kind of dates it to the right era. We found the boulder, no trouble, it is about 8 or 10 feet around, a lot of brush and small trees cover it up. At the time Cordelia died Israel owned this land where the stone is, and unless some other more logical answer is found, I am satisfied that this is her burial spot. ---------------------------------- In Ionia County records there are two purchases of land by Israel Richardson on July 9, 1864. He purchased a west fractional half of section eighteen in town twelve from Charles Merrill of Detroit for thirty-five dollars. He also purchased the east half of the north east quarter of section nineteen and the North west fractional quarter and the south half of the North east quarter of section nineteen in township twelve North of Range four west, a total of three hundred and four acres from Joel and Patty Rogers for six hundred dollars. -------------------------------------------------------------------------- 1840 Census.
